Our learning themes and key takeaways from 2018

  • Keep your mind outside the box.
  • Your core skills matter. Know them. Build them. Apply them.
  • Don’t miss out on new market rides.
  • Know yourself: Great people are waiting to meet You.
  • Be kind to people, even when it’s hard.

Who taught us something this year?

Participate, process, share: How did we do?

Participate: A

We’re giving ourselves an ‘A’ grade for participation in 2018. We attended a couple national business conferences, engaged in local community events, and held securities positions in the public markets. Participaing in these activities helped us stay connected to the pulse of the business world on various levels and we’ll continue that strategy in 2019. A few of those individuals we learned from this year we met through our conference participation, which was rewarding.

Process: A

We’re also giving ourselves an ‘A’ grade for process in 2018. Process feels like a constant in our world of management accounting: Reviewing, assessing, implementing, updating, harvesting. Improving the controls improves the results. This is the DNA of a controller. But processing ideas, how we do business and work as a team, and how we deliver value to our clients is what the evaluation of this category is about and that can be elusive at times. Overall, we made some great strides in processing Simlogi in 2018 and feel great about where things are heading. The construct of our team is an exciting development for 2019.

Share: B

And for sharing we’re giving ourselves a ‘B’ for the year. I published a weblog back in February 2018 titled ‘Wrestling with Weblogs’ and at that time I knew this activity of sharing was going to be challenging. I was uncertain at the time what content we would share publicly. Though as the year progressed, the approach to publishing content on our site became one of whatever was weighing heavily on our mind. I think we can do better at this in 2019 and by better I mean more of it. That is our intention for 2019.

We have much to be grateful for and much to put into motion in 2019. Always excited for what’s to come.

Cheers to a New Year!
